Easy Wildwood Trail w/Willy

February 1, 2014 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Slept in slightly at Chelsea 2's house. At 10 or Chels and I went into NW Portland/Pearl District to go to a yoga class. It was OK...but it reminded me of a spin class: dark and LOUD.

After that, we parted ways: I grabbed some coffee, and a while later, met Willie McBride at the ass-end of Forest Park for a run. BEAUTIFUL Day: "fake warm" (like high 40s/low 50s) but sunny/dry.

I've never really met Willie, but he's Yassine's business partner (Animal Athletics - personal training, tours) and he paced Yassine at GG in '12. Good convo, but I was feeling "off" from some allergies, but gradually came around.

Our most interesting convo was talking about "Nike Trail Running". He asked if I thought it was good for the sport. I answered by talking for 15 minutes about how the shoe companies are "doing more with less": more athletes, with next to no support, singling out PEARL for basically acting like drug dealers. Even Nike, who has parted ways with high-earning folks like Symmonds, Webb and Goucher (all at least 50K, maybe 150K?) and buying off trail guys with $1K in gear a year. Is it good? I don't know.

Good run, felt OK, but not great.

After the run, I drove back to C2's, hung with C for a while, then as she was getting ready for her bday party, I took off to go to the PCT presentation.

That was pretty cool: a good 2hrs of discussion on the speed records (whole trail and Oregon FKTs). Afterward, I went out with Willie and a few new folks I met that night. Fun times.

I was hoping to meet up with Chels later, but the girls night went, well, basically ALL night! So I hit up Voodoo for a snack, then rolled back to C2's. Was asleep by midnight.
