So I decided to make an actual doctor's appointment and go get my knee checked out to make sure it actually IS just a bone bruise and not something more serious. The doctor checked all my ligaments and poked around a bit. He confirmed it is almost certainly just a bone bruise, albeit a rather severe one. He gave me a rather non-answer to whether I could keep running on it, though the trainer I saw told me I could run to pain tolerance. I think that's what I'm going to do.

My knee was hurting all day after he applied a lot of pressure on my kneecap repeatedly in all directions, so I was slightly concerned about how the run would go, but it actually went fairly well. It actually does seem like there was some improvement over the past week. I was allowed to run to tolerance, but I stopped well before then.
