Mr Roberts' birthday run

March 1, 2014 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: rainy, shitty all day

Comments:
Slept in a bit at Chels', then got up, headed home, and got ready for Mr Roberts' birthday run. The plan was to run from his house, and hit all the major "peaks" in the Eug area for 30 miles total. I wasn't thrilled with this idea - it'd be a lot of crap road running - but I knew I needed a long run and one that wasn't crazy, heart rate-spiking vert.

Just before leaving my house, I...felt off. I decided to deuce at the last minute before going and, it was like a "sick deuce"...just...as if I was sick.

Drove over with pretty low energy, but expected to come around. I neglected to take any allergy meds, since it was raining steady.

Ran with a group of 7 or so and, the moment we hit the slightest uphill, my HR was spiking, and my breathing felt labored. WTF? We walked A LOT early on - like ANY hill would spike it well over 130 (which did NOT happen yesterday).

Ran up to Blanton and onto the west end of Ridgeline. The flats/downs felt pretty OK, so I flew those and got ahead of the group, which curiously did not run the downs with any speed at all. I swear, these "kids" need to learn how to run fast - and get into the habit - on the downhills!

Hit Willamette and continued along the Ridgeline to the "north face" of Spencer, which was a long, SLOWWWW, muddy shuffle-climb to the top. Again, after re-convening, I hammered the downs with Dan-o back to Ridgeline proper, then waited around again at Fox Hollow to re-organize. Another shuffler over to Baldy, where we met up with Tommy.

By this point, I was actually beginning to feel worse. Not fun. But I didn't want to bail - I'd commited to the whole thing and "needed" the work, so after a water stop we summitted Baldy, then hit the backside powerline trail heading east toward Mt Pisgah - a good 5 mile jaunt.

The downs were fun to run, but the ups were pure-hikers. Then, once we got to LCC, I felt terrible and decided I needed to bail.

Originally another friend was going to meet us just off I-5, and one guy who started with us was going to bail and take her car to Jason's. This was perfect for me...'til I found out she would be meeting us at Pisgah instead: another 3 miles east. Ugh.

Things got worse: on the pancake flat road, my HR was spiking to 140...running like 9:30 pace. WTF!?!?!?! I felt AWFUL. I fell back a good 100m from the group.

What was even worse than zero energy was that my left (and right) hamstring felt like SHIT! Just super-tight and sore! I'm fucking sick of this, too!

Finally, we got to the Pisgah parking lot, where Chloe was meeting us. However, Paul wanted to summit Pisgah, so I had to wait there for an HOUR while they went up and down before we finally left.

Felt like shit just sitting there: sitting in soaking wet clothes in the cold didn't help. Still had a lot of gut-rot. Finally, at 1:20, Paul drove us back.

Ugh, what a shitty day! We ran 15 miles in 2:52! Granted, I did log nearly 2600' of climbing, but still...#slowasshit but not in the fun way.

I thought about just going home and "dying", but instead I ran some errands: grocery shopped, ran ran into KIMBER ("...I'm yellin' KIMBEERRRR!"), and did laundry. Felt too shitty to do any writing.

Did nothing at night, other than clean up a bit.

What a shitty day! Was it food poisoning? It could be: we ordered a bunch of weird shit at Meiji (including my medium-rare burger)...or maybe it could've been leftover allergy shot carryover. Either way...I am SICK of being SICK, and feeling like SHIT!

Days like these just suck the life out of me; I hope they stay away for a while...
