Race day! It was nice to be back outside on an outdoor track, enjoying the warm weather! I like this meet a lot--the team-feeling is more apparent with the relays than in many other meets.

It was fun running the 1200m in the DMR as I'd never run it before and was excited to see what one would feel like. I am pretty happy with the race. The pack went out really fast and got pretty spread out within the first lap but I hung onto one girl around my pace for the first couple laps then passed her in the last 200m, which was nice. My splits were pretty uneven, though. In the future, I'll try to run the first and second laps more evenly (and overall quicker). I also enjoyed the 4x200m, treating it as a good chance to get some speed work in.

I am, however, pretty disappointed with the 8. Going into it, I was pretty tired from my 2 previous races as I didn't have much time between any of my events. Still, I'm not happy with how I ran the race. I think I wasn't quite mentally ready when the race started, because when the gun went off all of the girls took off much faster than I was expecting and I got caught near the back of the pack. For the first lap, I worked off one girl in front of me then realized at the start of the second lap that I was going way too slow. A bunch of girls were slowing down by then so I passed 3 or 4 people but still, by then I knew I should've been going faster the whole race. I kicked it in pretty strong and passed the baton to Sarah. Times aside, I think next time I need to make sure I'm ready to run hard from the get-go, take a chance and go after a quicker pack, and start kicking earlier (ie on the back straightaway of the last lap). All in all, though, this was a good meet to get back into racing. And hey, I'm not anywhere near my peak yet and have plenty of time to keep training so that later in the season, I'll have some more successful races.
