Exercise Type: Run

Weather: mid/high 70s, nice

Comments:
Awesome day at work: TONS of openings, so I got the bulk of my UR column done. Now I have to finish Part II for iRF in 24 hours!

Wasn't entirely sure I'd do Hardesty today - the feet are still iffy and I felt rough yesterday - but mid-day Tolman texted me wanting in on Hardesty. That, and I had a 345 opening, so I figured I'd have plenty of time.

We met in P-Hill and drove together from there. The allergies were rough all week. I didn't take an Allegra this AM, so I figured I'd take a zyrtek, which I did, right before leaving.

Felt the usual post-work tired on the drive out, but otherwise fine. The BACK was a little iffy in the afternoon, but I pushed on it before I left and it was good. I also wore the SI belt just in case...

Tolman led and immediately pushed the pace. Ugh. I told him I had only wanted a low-60s, but it didn't take long to realize that he had an agenda. He pushed the opening mile, which I held behind him, but my HR jacked...and, oddly, my breathing was SUPZ hard. This unusual: even with hard efforts, rarely do I become breathless.

We hit the first mile in 10:30, which is blazing. By a quarter into the 2nd mile, I had fallen off. My HR was mid 170s and I felt awful. So I intentionally backed off and tried to get shit in order. Still, the HR was high...but the splits were solid: 23:30, which is also blazing.

The third mile was OK, but I was feeling it more and more: in the lungs mostly. I was "on par fast" after 3, meaning I'd slowed down and sub-60 was in jeopardy. 4th mile really sucked, but I was just focused on good mechanics.

Finally, finally, hit the top - after a rough, air-sucking 5th mile, in 60:25. Tolman had been there for SIX MINUTES ALREADY! That's a good 3.5 min faster than anyone I'd ever known to run it.

I felt like SHIT. I think I had asthma because I was really tight in the chest. It sucked. It was not fun. We sat up there a bit longer, then turned down.

I went SLOW because A.) I felt like shit, and B.) I wanted to run conservatively to not fuck up my back. Tolman pushed on and was out of sight a half mile in. I took it easy...but still felt shitty. Tough to breathe, still and the HR was higher than it should've been.

Up in 60:25 and down in a slow 42:40. Tolman descended in 36:35, about 10s faster than my all-time fastest. Guy's a beast right now, damn.

Felt like shit the rest of the night, but significantly better after taking 3 hits from my inhalar.

Wore the M2s again. Great shoe on that rough terrain.
