South EUG +Tugman/Rexius

June 16, 2014 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 60s, overcast-y

Comments:
Rained HARD in the afternoon but was OK by the end of work. A patient held me late and I lollygagged a bit before running.

Once again, hyper-focused on a lack of SWIVS. BUT...another key thing I've been working on: "The Flick & Pull".

This was a killer cue back in '10, when I just so happened to run my best marathons. It's basically a pawback cue: flick the foot forward then forcefully pull it back. A HUGE reason my L hip doesn't do...well, anything, is that I don't get it underneath me at contact. I noticed a HUGE difference in power on this run when I did that.

Ran easy to Tugman Park near LB's, then looped down to Rexius and ran south a bit before turning back. Was low-7 pace according to Suunto on the way back. Did x5 50-75mi strides in the last mile. Felt VERY POWERFUL when I focused on the "flick & pull". Feel like the old stride is coming back...

Didn't do...much of anything last night! Sat around, read some stuff...and relished in NOT having a writing deadline.

Went over to Mr Roberts' house to bid he and Blaine farewell. Shared a beer and a few more stories. Gonna miss that guy.

Kaci fb chatted me up again last night. SO weird. *I* am about 99.3% sure she has no interest in Bitter, mostly because she NEVER told me he was there (because she didn't want me to know, or have it be on my radar). She also didn't "like" the pic that was posted of them. AND there was a definite "physical gap"/distancing in that picture.

Oh, gosh, it's all so silly. I wonder about her, a little bit, and need to be sure she's not "bebop'in and scattin". I don't think she is, but still...

In other news, I feel like I've got Ashley in my crosshairs. I wrote her Sunday night, making a joke about how Hannah made her play dead when they played "funeral" as kids. She wrote me back a cute/funny story of how they would find dead animals on their farm, growing up, and stage elaborate funerals for them. :) She's a really sweet girl, beneath her ambivalent, "sexy" facade. That sweetness and woundedness is a major attractant for me. And at this point, I'm intrigued just to get her to open up and "be real" with me.

I've been trying to get her to read this book for, well, a couple months, now, so on Sunday, I broke down and bought it for her:

It's not what you'd think: Ray Carver was what you might call a "hardened realist", and his "love stories" were mostly tragic, but always meaningful. I think she could relate to that hardened realism that belies a sensitive idealism. We'll see where that goes...
