DCXXIII

July 26, 2014 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Rainy, misty, 75-80

Comments:
Training runs are best when dramatic. Desperate for a new place to run, I consulted gmap and spotted the Gordon Pond Wildlife Area and Cape Henlopen State Park only a couple miles away on Ocean Drive. At 2:30pm I went into the rain and started quite easily, but I soon found a rhythm and told myself at three minutes that I would either remain this pace or go faster. I soon quit the the Boardwalk and was on Ocean Drive, the houses becoming nicer and more private as I went. I turned left into the park and came upon a wide, but densely packed, grey gravel trail flanked by pine trees and other vegetation on the left and the pond on the right. I pushed through a few miles of the trail which had some markers, one which told me I was at 6:50 on the way out. I turned on a wooden bridge at 27:30, aiming to negative split. It began to rain much harder during the next five minutes but there was little to no wind. The rest of the run was an excellent, form-focused effort; I could push off without bouncing. The way back took 26:41. I finished with 2:15 planks, 20 leg lifts per position, 100 crunches and a minute worth of Peter Silverman mountain climbers. I'll take an easy day tomorrow, and have average day either on Monday or Tuesday, one of those two days being the fartleks.
