Weird run - South EUG + 1x mile tempo

August 10, 2014 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 75->85F, humid-ish

Comments:
Lazy day. Didn't sleep too well - not sure why. Then I got up, but had to go to the store to get cream for the tea. Made tea, faffed around a bit, did some strength work and stretching, then finally got around to running around 11AM.

Didn't eat breakfast, but in a de facto experiment, I ate a fair amount of Trail Butter. I LOVE the stuff, but I don't think it sits well: when I've eaten it before runs, I *think* it caused gut rot, so I wanted to be sure.

...and, yeah. It does. My gut was AWFUL for the bulk of the run. On top of that, there was a bit of smoke in the air and, for one reason or another, my HR was spikey all day.

Ran south through Tugmen, the around Fox Hollow to Rexius and out and back to Snell. I thought I'd do two miles of tempo (like last week), but I almost bagged it, I felt so crappy. But I figured it'd be good training, so I went for it.

Stride felt GREAT. I remembered, post-Thursday, about one more stride element: the "PLOW" - the idea of enhancing hip drive by thinking of "plowing" your shin+knee forward. I'd noticed I was light on that in my recording, Monday, and that was crucial to my fast 200s on Thursday.

Did some strides, feeling great, and then went for it.

Felt GREAT. Even though it was hot and windy (and the gut rot and high HR was still prevalent), I felt strong! It felt so good that I think I slowed down in the first 400 and had to pick it up a bit. The breathing was harder than I would've liked but I felt great.

Finished in 5:25! One of my faster "tempo" miles ever on that trail. Great development.

Jogged home after that.

Felt a little off the rest of the day (air quality?). But I enjoyed myself: read a lot, stretched and binge-watched "Prison Break", did laundry, grocery shopped, then talked to my sis, mom and KacR on the phone. Good day :)
