Baldy repeat x1

August 13, 2014 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: mid 70s, nice

Comments:
Pretty good day at work, then I dropped off my bike to get fixed (flat, brakes) - gotta get it ready for Crater '14!

Drove to Hilyard+39th by Craiggers' old place, then ran easy 1.5mi to the bottom of Baldy. Felt a teeny bit stiff, but the ENERGY (and enthusiasm) to run is strong! Conditions were much nicer today: like mid 70s and not too sunny.

Forgot the HRM, so went by feel. Not too hard, and I didn't push anything. Yet I PR'd with a ten-flat (10:00) ascent! Same thing on the descent: didn't push it on any flats, but tried to let go with quick feet, and PR'd on the descent! (7:37).

Jogged back to the car. A little gut rot, but OK. Ran into Eli and his mom a half-mile from my car.

None of the SEHS kids have asked me if I was going to coach this fall. Most kids that age have the "awkward awareness"+self-consciousness to avoid asking that question ("Are you coming back?")...I think because they knew or felt there wasn't great cohesion between Jeff and I.

But, I KNEW Eli would be the guy that would ask, because he still has that child-like inquisitive-ness, and he wants to know. So, of course, he DID! He asked me if I was "going to camp" - their week-long cc camp that starts tomorrow. I should've told him and his mom that I couldn't coach this fall "because of work", but I simply told him I was running Waldo this weekend. Kind of dropped the ball. Oh well.

I'm excited for him, though: he's gonna have a great year. He was by far the most enjoyable kid I worked with in the spring and I'll miss him.

Drove home, ate, hung out, talked to KacR (who send me a good luck card in the mail!), then watched a couple episodes of "Prison Break". Hooked on that show!
