September 4, 2014 (Afternoon)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: Hot, humid
Comments:
We had very little time to warmup for these Episcopal Relays, and hadn't reached Key Bridge when the clock read 3:31. It was probably better this way and one brisk loop of the course, two striders and leg swings seemed to do the trick, at least in that heat. I stood on the line next Zeke after a poorly orchestrated "run good." I don't have much to say am not jumping up and down, but certainly did a quality workout. I ran alone for almost the entire race, not fooled by those getting out too quickly during the first mile, whom I dispatched quickly. I freaked out a little at the beginning because I didn't know how to pace, but soon, for better or worse, fell into a rhythm. Co-Captain Zeke was ahead and quite visible, but not reachable (at least I thought at the time) the whole time. First "mile" 5:07, followed by a 5:19, followed by 5:28. I focused on accelerating after curves on the pine needle surface and frankly focused on trying to focus. Co-Captain Aidan and I swept 1,2 with Tristan and Zeke winning the meet. One of the more anticlimactic workouts of my career.
