hike up, run down from HITT

September 14, 2014 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: warm, nice

Comments:
Slept crappy and woke up with a splitting headache from all the smoke.

Packed up by 9ish, got two coffees (one for me, and one for MrR), then a sixer of celebratory beer and headed for the finish.

Parked at Lithia Park and after some chatter, walked backwards up the course a good mile. I was almost at the end of the pavement - STEEP uphill - when MrR and Emily appeared.

She looked ROUGH, like BAD, like hyponatremic-drunk, almost. I was worried, but she was later fine. We walked slowly downhill with some teeny running, then ran the final 2-3 blocks to the finish.

Emily finished in 28:10 - LONG day! We hung out at the finish, the three of us plus Meredith and Andrew. It was fun and everyone was in good spirits.

I was wiped out, and the 8.5% "Little Sumpthin Extra" didn't help. So I decided to bail around 11:30. Went to Noble to get ANOTHER coffee for the ride home.

Pretty smooth ride home. VERY glad I came down - it was a great experience!

Thought a lot about KacR on the way home, and I realized there are some "yellow flag" elements that I need to be mindful of: similarities between her and Chelsea, including:

- disordered eating/body image issues
- having physical activity as a critical outlet and main source of self-esteem
- having a "following" of arms-length (or farther) "fan club", for which she has to maintain a "facade"
- the habit of withdrawing when feeling threatened
- having difficulty taking risks, and fearing commitment

In general, it's been frustrating dealing with the intermittent push-pull with Kaci: of times when she's feeling threatened (by something), then withdrawing. It frustrates and irritates me, but I kept telling myself to be both patient and empathetic to whatever underlying issues, wounds, etc she's dealing with...
