Revolution Run Homecoming 5K

September 27, 2014 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Signed up for this race a while ago. Kinda looking forward to it, but I wasnt thinking about it a lot. After the Charleston trip, running got kinda interrupted and the race kinda crept up. Race was in the late morning. I parked up at the usual spot then walked down to the library. Sat around for a while getting pumped up, then did a quick warm up around campus. Legs felt pretty tight actually on the warm up. My hammy felt kinda tight. I took the warm up real easy just trying to get ready to start rolling. Quick pee stop at the Campus Center, then hit up the drills. There were more people showing up, some that looked pretty legit actually. Thats was kinda cool, but made me feel slow :( After drills and putting my shoes on, I actually felt pretty ready to go.

Race started off down the path from Memorial Hall, and then went under the Southwest Tunnel and down the bike path to the parking lot near the sports fields. That was all downhill. Pack separated out pretty quick, and I felt into the front of the second pack. I didnt want to go out too fast, so I knew it was smart to hang back there. Felt soo soo smooth in the first mile. It was so easy. I kept holding that spot felt real strong through the first mile, which was right at 6:00. Second mile was basically a Stadium Loop. At that point, I was completely in No Mans Land. 15 sec in front and 15 sec behind the next people. I could feel the pace slow down, from a race to a run pace. I wasnt happy with that at all, but it just didnt feel like a race at that point. Pace slowed but I still held it back onto the bike path and up the hill back onto campus. Kinda closed in a little on the guys in front of me, but it def wasnt enough. Coming up the hill, I was feeling so beat, embarrassingly tired. Legs felt fine but my gut was burning and my arms felt weak. Kinda knew I was off pace and saw the clock switch to 19:00 as I was coming in. I wasnt too happy about that, since I knew I could break that. HR was around tempe when I finished actually (152). Need more strength and mileage dude! Overall I did have fun cause I got to run fast, but it just didnt feel like a complete race today, and I wasnt too proud of the time. No idea where my place was though...

Did a nice cool down around the northern part of campus. It was slow and my legs felt pretty crappy. It was really nice out though so plotting around was fine. I realized though that most people were at Alumni now, all running together. I found that running and racing alone wasnt the same. I still like training and going to races, but doing the whole thing all by myself is so different and not as fun. I dont want to sound like a downer though, since it was awesome to get out there and put some of my training to the test. I just had a weird vibe the whole time that I want to shake.

Essentials: Stretch

Nice stretch back near the quad after I got my stuff back. I needed that to work things out. So sore afterwards, I am going to need to roll later in the day. I saw people getting ready for the parade today. One group walked by dressed in 1700's regalia, with powdered wigs and old coats and three cornered hats. That fucked my shit up I just started laughing out loud. It was so cool haha. After that, I walked back to the car and drove home, narrowly missing the parade and all the other shenanigans that are going on campus to day because of homecoming. I hope the football team wins today! Overall after today I want to do a few more road races this season, just keep working at it to get a good racing environment and run a satisfying race.
