Exercise Type: Run
Weather: Hot and sunny during the day, lacking in shade, cooled down by race time
Comments:
The team went to the DCXC invite at Kenilworth recreation center in northeast. Today saw focused performances from everyone, including a junior race victory of 15:41 by Tristan and four girls running the exact same time. I spent the day hydrating and retlaxing, eating a light lunch and doing English reading. I even took a quick nap a little bit before we warmed up. It was Aidan, Zeke and I on the line. I set out to run my own race, a la MACs. Across the first field I could already detect people around me breathing hard and tensing their form, while I stayed totally relaxed and started passing people by the mile mark, for which I don't have a split, but I know it was conservative, because Gorka (who ran 17:23!) was in front of me by then. Over the next few turns, I passed more and more people, starting to feel fatigued, but keeping form. I heard 10:46 at the two mile mark and accelerated. The course was lovely and I laughed to myself about passing people who went out too fast. Anthony said he hadn't seen me look this good in a while and that this would be a good day. I finished well, even getting up on the toes and was glad to see I have picked up where I left off at the end of last October. I still wish I could've been further up, but a PR is a PR, and not so bad when it was 59 seconds faster than last week. I am now at eight leaves.
