Comments:
We finished third today at Third Battle Invitational, behind Loudon Valley and Chantilly with several personal bests the whole team over. Conditions were pretty good, with only a few muddy spots on the primarily gravel course. I had been looking forward to this for days and was truly excited to run. I told myself that when tired during the race, I would remind myself that I liked doing this. Anthony said everyone would feel able to push harder, which I did. One problem, however, is that I have felt too in control during every race this year, never quite reaching that post-race feeling of exhaustion. I'll have to figure out how to do that next week. Today I got out in 5:23, feeling smooth and relaxed, seeing Jackson ahead of me, but not panicking. I spent the next mile catching up to him and passing several people. I was still not as far up as I would have liked when we came out of the wooded section onto to the grass. Only here did I first start feeling fatigued, but maintained form. I was not happy to hear 10:55 at the two-mile mark, Jackson still frustratingly close. We actually worked together during the last mile, going by a lot of people on the long downhill in the final loop. I even had an okay finish, but don't feel like I'm working hard enough. I'm certainly not upset with today, but had planned for a much quicker personal best than I have at the moment.
