Dorris run with Callie Alice

December 17, 2014 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 50s, partly sunny at times

Comments:
Met Callie Alice to run over lunch hour. She just found a shower at her work and, since she's salaried with flexibility, she was able to take a long lunch with me.

We had a mysterious lunch meeting today, so she and I had to push a bit to get in this double-digit run: from around my apt (she works literally across the street from my apt), through PRE trails, and all the way to Dorris Ranch (park) and back.

I felt a little sluggish. I was feeling the 3x mile from yesterday and the overall long days recently. But it was fun. She was chatty and positive. There were some similarities to running with Kaci, but I tried to not let that get in my head. But I realized how sensitive I'd become to running with other people as fast as me - it's TOUGH! It gets unsettling to be remotely pushed outside the comfort zone, and I think doing so is good for me.

There were some nice differences: on the big up and over hill to get to Dorris (maybe 250'), Callie pulled away, much the same way Kaci would do EVERY time we ran. But at the top Callie stopped for me and ran back, then explained she was testing her sore knee. Then, on the down, she just FLEW (definitely not a Kaci thing), which was impressive. I appreciate the joy.

We barely got into Dorris before having to turn back, which was a bummer, and on the way back, we pushed a bit so I'd be on time. But I tell ya, it felt GOOD to feel...well, GOOD running sub-7 pace. It's been a LONG time.

Overall, it was fun to run with her and fun to just look over at her smiling. Good run.
