OFF - afternoon at Mike's

February 20, 2015 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Other

Comments:
Worked 'til afternoon, then jetted to Junction City to observe with Mike. This is party of my residency application, but in many ways, my mind was already made-up. But I wanted that experience.

I observed several of his patients from 1-4:30-, and did a couple simple techniques. It was good to shadow him to see how he works, as well as interacts with his whole staff.

At 4:45, it was my turn. I explained what was going on with my left ankle and foot...but he was once again drawn to my right foot. What he keeps seeing is my right foot collapse down, my lower leg bone spin in (and foot out).

Here was an interesting sequence:

- He tested my hip strength. It SUCKED. AGAIN.
- He worked on my back a little, then taped my right foot. He retested my hips: 100% strong
- I ran twice around the parking lot (200m max)
- He retested my hips: 100%
- He untaped my foot, then I ran twice around the block again.
- He retested my hips: TOTAL SHIT!

So, I thing we have the answer: my right foot collapses, it makes my lower leg collapse, which shifts my weight left (so *I* don't collapse), and it also torques my back, which turns off my hips!!!

That...may be the answer. And the reason why, for "no reason", I run slow as shit. Because when your hips are almost literally 50% strength or less, how can you expect to compete with the best? This also explains why Waldo went SO well: he taped my feet.

THAT SIMPLE.

I left really encouraged, that FINALLY we may have the answer to EVERYTHING. I'm gonna have to get custom orthotics.

PM: drove home. No run. Callie wanted a little night out, so we played dress-up and went for drinks at Electic Station, then for dinner at this new cider place. Both spots were less than a half-mile from the APT. Good day...other than the fatigued-allergic reaction to the foot tape!!!
