Hardesty hike up, pound down w/CA

March 1, 2015 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 50s, NICE

Comments:
Nice, relaxing AM: slept in with CA at Pete's, then hung out with him, his mom (a former patient of mine, up from Eugene to help with his girls) and his two daughters. BEAUTIFUL morning in Bend: like teens and sunny. Drank coffee and hung out 'til around 9ish, then we were on the road with Starbz by 10.

Drove south to 58, then down the pass to Hardesty. The *idea* was to do some hike up + run down. I was hope I could go REALLY long, but it wasn't in the cards. The achilles, in general, was pretty good all weekend, and I did a good job of doing heel raises, sretching and self-massage ("flossing"). But definitely not 100%. BUT, I know it's good with hiking.

So the plan was hike UP *the entirety of Hardesty*, then run down. I was really curious how fast I could do it, hiking. A lot of rec runners "run" Hardesty in ~80, so that was my standard.

CA went along. This was good for her, since she needs to keep intensity low. She was flattering me, saying she was having a hard time keeping up and had to run while I power-hiked! It was pretty fun, and a damn good workout, for sure. The few flat spots were annoying to walk and, unfortunately, precluded a sub 80. Wound up splitting 83 with very little achilles symptoms.

We flew pretty good on the way down. Still ridiculously dry up there, with only patches of mud at the bottom. Really focused on loading the big toe and ball of the foot, but evidently I'm still mildly overloading the left side. Work in progress.

Up in 83:xx
Down in 39:25, which is a SOLID descent.

Pretty trashed, though! All the cross-training has been really muscle-confusing.

PM: got grocery shopping, laundry, and some "work" done. GOOD WEEKEND!
