Day Zero of "The Spring of OOJ"!

March 9, 2015 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Bike

Comments:
Slept over at Callie Alice's, and, when all said and done, was rushed for time. Yet, I guess, I wasn't overly concerned about pissing them off, now that I've given notice.

I rolled into work on the bike, a minute late. No patient waiting. I rolled the bike into the bike storage room and Rachel nearly sprinted after me. "Can we talk, Joe?", she seemed rushed, almost panicked. Yeesh, OK.

"Today is going to be your last day", she explained...only, that wasn't true. LAST THURSDAY was my last day. They'd canceled all my patients and, effective immeidately, I was OUT. "We can't have you working here", she said, saying that because I'm "going to work for a competitor", they don't want me around.

I was pretty shocked. I thought it would happen, but not this soon. She then pulled an envelope out of her pocket: "This is last period's pay, your remaining vacation, and two weeks' severence"

Wow, cool. There's only one problem. That's four weeks' pay, and I gave 6.5 weeks' notice. "We've never done this before", she said, and I don't recall if I argued, because it was slowly dawning on me that, "Holy shit, I have a MONTH off, PAID!"

They'd already boxed up all my stuff: from the desk, around the clinic, and all my clothes and gear from the locker room. But they'd missed several things, so - with light awkwardness - I milled around, picking up a few things here and there. Nonplussed (both meanings!), as I went around, I said goodbyes and thank-yous to those in attendance: Cooper, Mark, and Taylor. I had to have Cooper watch me go onto my computer and upload my files. I gathered a couple other things, then, just like that, hopped on my bike!

Surreal. I biked home to get my truck. Just as I arrived, CA was walking to work. I told her, then ditched my bike and hopped in the truck. Back to the office, I went to the side door. "Oh, I should give my key back", I thought, as I slid it into the lock. I twisted. Didn't work. They CHANGED THE LOCK already! So I went around to the front door, loaded up my two boxes, and then, finally, said goodbye to Tanya.

And that was it! WOW.

Free at last, I guess!

It took the remainder of the day for things to sink in, such as the fact that ALL my patients (I dunno, maybe 50? 100?) were abruptly notified I "no longer worked at Tensegrity" and not given a reason. Thus many, as I found out, either believed I bailed on everyone, or was involved in some impropriety. They later stated they'd say I went elsewhere (slightly less sketchy).

The rest of the day:

- went to the coffee shop to do some work, including file for unemployment!
- texted Kelly to get in for a massage (free time!)
- went for a bike ride

Rode through west EUG to Kelly's, who worked on my achilles for a half hour. Then biked the long way home. About 70 minutes biking, total.

PM: yoga with CA, then beers, THEN we cleaned up and went to Mezza Luna Pizza to use a gift card - and carb-load - then to Sweet Life for CA's new ultra tradition: post-race dessert.

The down side? MAJOR gut-rot fullness from the carbs! UGH.

PM PM: Had another chat. CA was acting pretty "jaded" all day, which didn't bother me too much. I knew what it was from, that I didn't give her the, "I more-than-like-you" return! She said she took that as rejection ("I'm hungry. Let's get SOMETHING to EAT."). We talked MORE about it, and I explained MORE about it, and how I feel about her, and, well, things are good.

Weird, crazy, but...holy shit, awesome day!!!
