West PRE with brace

March 20, 2015 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Another busy day: got some work done in the AM, then hustled over to EPT to get my brace, then drove to Junction City for PT. Mike prepped me for my orthotics by working on a few things in my back+trunk, but didn't work on my ankles. But there's a good connection between HOW I walk (e.g. trunk and pelvic extension) and footstrike (more flat-back, more lateral foot).

After that, I hustled to the orthotics guy. Eric Covely is an interesting fellow: used to be a wilderness logger, and showed me a bunch of pics of him flying helicopter and doing crazy shit when he was younger. He's SUPER-passionate about orthotics (and is also a certified prosthetist - used to make prosthetics but it was "too depressing"). He's gonna make me an ultra-lightweight insert that's AS LIGHT as the standard inserts, which is bomb.

After that, I hustled home to go run with my new brace! The brace is stiff plastic in a stirrup, with velcro straps. It was NOT comfortable, but...the run was PAIN-FREE!

Ran for just under 5 miles in West PRE and felt next-to-NOTHING. The brace was a pain, though: mild blistering on the inside and outside of my foot & ankle!

PM: went to Highlands to watch some basketball with Tommy, Dano and some others, then home. Wore the brace there: was some achilles soreness...which was annoying
