Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
Got a bunch done today, which was nice, including my allergy shot. Felt a little off in the afternoon.
CA wanted to add-on for what was billed as a low-mileage Barkley-style hunt. So she ran from our apts to Lewis', then she and I ran easy for 25 minutes.
I felt like CRAP: crazy-trashed from the hard Hardesty, and bogged in the allergy shot muck. Not a lot of convo as we rolled down to Amazon and around and back. Windy but not raining.
Barkley hunt! Lewis and Dan-o organized, and we had a nice crew in attendance:
- me and CA
- OGs: Lewis, Dan-o, Tommy
- MrR, Katniss, Hammer, E-Sweats, Dr Choi
- SUPER OG: OD!
Really cool to have OD there. We jogged easy (or at least I did) up Agate to the end of Spring, to the on and off pond at the base of Baldy. It was DEEP today, like 4 feet! lc lit the cigarette and we were off.
There were three books hidden, the first was in a "v-shaped tree" somewhere on the side of Baldy. While the group scattered, I kept my eye on Dr Choi, who seemed to be employing a phone GPS. I headed farther up and NE, til something caught my eye. I hiked further and found a gigantic double-trunked tree...with a book at the base! I whispered to CA, and she and I got our pages, and I hauled ass up to the top of Baldy to claim the priem.
It took a long time for the others to find it, so CA and I jogged around 'til the other met at the bench, then we went as a group toward book 2, which was on the east side of Baldy. CA found the second book, first, and we waited there for Katniss, while Lewis fueled us with some PBRs! From there, we went roundabout, in the LCC area, toward the last book. We had one prolonged pit stop to clear a felled tree that was blocking a trail that was otherwise impassible due to the ridiculous briar bushes. After our saws cleared a path, CA and I hauled ass toward the third book, looking for a stretch of "trail" that lc deemed, "Dan-o's Razor Briars".
I got there first: to a trail that gradually dwindled away, absorbed on all sides by aggressive blackberry bushes. It was a struggle to even move at all, once there, and CA was convinced this was the wrong way, but I persisted, in futility, til the rest of the group showed up with loppers and shears! I went to town, trimming away a good 10m of hell, until the trail broke open again. Determined to win this thing, I took off with CA behind, battling the last bit of trail - and daylight - toward the trailhead.
The final book was in a root wad near "El Jefe's House" - a super-nice mansion at the base of Baldy. The trail peetered out just before the end of Jefe's backyard, and CA and I struggled to get to his fenceline and take that toward the TH. With neither Th or wad in sight, I bounded into the woods again' til I found a hint of trail, then backtracked to a wad. The last book!
I grabbed my pages, and so did CA...then she took off! I thought we were supposed to wait at Book 3, but she insisted we didn't (and she's right 90% of the time), so when she hit the start-finish TH first, she was the winner.
I alerted the rest of the folks when we found the book, so everyone finished in short order after us. From there, we jogged back to the house.
REALLY FUN HUNT. Not sure I'd like to do that for 60 hours, but it was pretty cool.
CA and I did major Tecnu rinse-off as precaution for poison oak, and we lucked out. Free and clear.
