MB to LC with Ford

April 25, 2015 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
The plan today was to meet up today with the "Ice Cream Sandwich" runners, so Ford and I scooted to MB at 11, but we got there a little late, so, thinking they'd left, we took off.

Kept it EASY for the bulk of it today: slow descent, then shuffly climb out of El D. No runners in sight except for a couple randos, but no Queen or Princess. After a stop at Deadwood Cemetary, we ran into Mark Lawes, who said they were still behind us! Oh well.

The weather was...not great, again. Overcast and cool. It started to mist lightly as we descended Deadwood and hiked out. More shuffling to another tour of Pacific Slab, then finally up to Last Chance. Ford snacked and I peed, then we took off.

There were some thoughts about going faster on the way back, but I wasn't feeling it, but figured we could push the climbs a bit. Pretty standard race-day descent of Deadwood, then a hike-slight shuffle up. Ford took off in front. I still split a low 30s (maybe 30-flat?) and we reconvened for the descent.

The weather had gone to shit on the way back, including thunderclaps, then hard rain and hail in Deadwood, that got only slightly better into El D. The El D descent was OK, but a little harrowing because it was slick! Did a pretty mediocre 40, then slow-ground the run up to MB. My watch died but it was probably another 40.

Good run! Ford has some work to do on descending, but he otherwise did well.

PM: LB's house with a big crew of trail workers, including MB, who was in rare form. Had our taste of "Source from the Course"!
