Exercise Type: Run
Weather: overcast to huge downpour!
Comments:
Slept much better last night and felt better in the AM. We were short on time and CA was driving "quick" (and one-handed) to Oakridge, which caused another driving-related mini-argument.
Saw training was much more fun today: we drove out to an old orchard and practiced "bucking logs" with the cross-cut. It's a very cool exercise: a literal give-and-take, trying to get a running-like rhythm - AND using the shoulder blades like with running! Best of all, we're now "certified sawyers" to take a cross-cut into national forests and wilderness!
Got done around 2, then CA and I drove to the North Willamette Trail nearby. I forgot how sweet this trail is! It's very similar to McKenzie, but unfortunately only about 3 miles of flat, then it rolls along the steep riverbank quite a bit. We kept it REAL easy: my watch died 3 miles in but I was averaging about 120 or less. We had some good chats as the thunder clapped above us, and we got rained on, on the return of the out-and-back, but it was otherwise a great run.
Near the end of the run, CA had a mini meltdown: frustration from ongoing knee and hamstring pain. It's really hard on me: I try to help, and I do think her stride is way better, but too often she does too much (too much mileage, too much vert, or too technical) - often with my implicit approval - and she flares. Not sure what the solution is, but she may have to run even slower...
PM: drove back to Eugene, stopping in P-Hill at this new BBQ stand, which was great. TIRED, but good weekend!
