Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Low 70s

Comments:
This time I drove to the parking lot by Chain Bridge so that I could run on the towpath as much as possible. Everything felt tight during my 10-minute warmup, but some drills helped that to some extent. Then I did 8-15-8 at cruise pace with 4:00 and 7:30 recovery. Concerned that I haven't been running at the most blistering speeds this summer, I tried to approach the intervals more like a race--which I know you generally aren't supposed to do. Hardly ever checking my watch, the time flew by and my form felt clean and bouncy. I turned back at 31:15. Finishing the final interval at 52:30 and having to make it back to Chain Bridge, I ran up 41st three times a respectable effort and concluded with 3x10-second "springs" on the top section.

I received confirmation today that I DON'T have a stress fracture or reaction after an MRI last night that my mom essentially made me get. Her reasoning was that I should have it looked at before shipping off to the middle of nowhere and having to live in uncertainty and fear. According to the MRI, however, there was still some damage from the spring of 2014 when I had the beginnings of a stress reaction, but nothing came of it, because the season ended. The doctor said that's something to watch.

If you had asked me a few weeks ago how I felt about the season, I would have said, "Ugh, no, I don't want to do hard workouts, just let me run steady mileage the whole time;" but now I feel that itch to go fast and push myself, meaning mentally I'm far more prepared for the season to come. And it's coming.
