Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
Great afternoon long run. I mapped out a run into Pelham before heading out in the early afternoon. Never ran that far down the road so I was wondering how far I could go. Started out on down to Fort River then up the road. It was hot and sunny out but real nice in the shade. Started out nice and easy. There were so many cars out and about today, town was really filled up and that made for nice sightseeing. There was a huge soccer game going on at Fort River, I am pretty sure I was the only white person there as I ran by. Everyone was speaking Spanish and it looked real intense and a lot of fun. Headed on down the road more. There were a bunch of tag sales going on all over the place too as people move into their new houses and dorms. One I ran past was really crowded and the cars were parked on the sidewalk. I had to slow down to go around them, and as I did, this old guy stopped me and asked for help lifting a huge rug into his car. I stopped and with another guy who was there, we helped him shove it in the car. Nice crosstraining in the middle of the run. Started right back up after that and kept going. At the town line, the sidewalk ends, and its a busy narrow road (especially with all the extra people). I didnt quite make it to the school, had to cut up onto Harkness and take that up to the back side of Echo Hill. It was really nice up there, quiet and I got into a good smooth pace. Came down the hill and was wondering how far I went and how much more I had. Did some quick math in my head and cut across Wentworth over to Kiwanis and Stanley Rd. Came up Fort Hill and popped out on the trail. Pretty sure I was a little short, so I did one meadow loop and then came back on the rail trail. As I started the meadow loop I felt pretty good, much better than I did at the end of my long run last week. The meadow had now shade though and that kinda took it out of me. Came back at a nice chill pace feeling pretty tired. Felt great when I finished though, needed a strong long run like that. Havnt gone this far in a long while.
Essentials: Stretch
Stretch and a lot of grape Gatorade when I got back. Legs werent that beat actually, but it was nice to sit and stretch. Need to stretch more later cause I bet I will feel pretty sore. My low mileage lifestyle made me forget how long 13 miles is. That seemed like nothing back in the day. Today's run put it in perspective though.
