Station Rd Lot

September 9, 2015 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Long day on campus. It was another hot one. Went to a really cool physics seminar in the afternoon, then biked home. I pushed it pretty hard, getting the HR up and prepped for a run. It was on the late side so I really wanted to get out. Dropped by shit and headed out the door. I could feel the wind picking up a little bit so I took a shirt with me. Felt kinda bad starting out, crackers not quite digested. Worked through it though and just kept up the pace. After I got past Groff, it started to rain a little bit, nice and refreshing break from the recent heat. It progressively got harder and harder. My back was to the front, so I really couldnt see what was going on. To me, it seemed like this bad boy popped out of nowhere. I kept on down the trail and it kept getting harder and harder. I head some thunder too and that spooked me so I def picked up the pace down the trail. Felt pretty good though on the way down, great pace, fun weather. The way back it was really raining. I was shaded by the trees a little but now I could see the storm and all the lightning. At that point I was kinda scared. Picked up the pace back to Mill Rd. I dropped my shirt off at the bench on the way out. As I got back, hell broke loose. My shirt was soaked, sitting under the bench, because there was already soo much standing water. At that point it was torrential. I could barely see anything. I wrapped my shirt around my head and just headed back on Mill Rd. Really scary since there are some sections with no trees, and I am pretty sure the storm was right over us at that point. I had to pause a few times (to jump over ankle deep puddles and to dodge thunder claps). Havnt seen rain like this in a while. It was flooding and puddling up everywhere. Running back up Pleasant St was like hiking up a small waterfall. It was nuts! I bet I looked ridiculous to all the passing cars, but I really wanted to get home. Pace slowed down a lot and I didnt restart my watch from when I hid out under a tree on someones front yard near Groff Park. It was slow on the way back though. Went out in 20 min and not sure what I did on the way back... Turned out to be a really fun run, with some great fitness in the beginning. Mostly, it was kinda refreshing from the heat wave. I had to check the radar and see that this storm slammed Amherst, and basically only Amherst. And I went out to run at the perfect time. It stopped raining right as I got back and tried to dry off on the porch. Classic.

Essentials: Stretch, L7

Stretch was kinda lackluster since I was soaked and I had to dry off first. Also legs were tight from wading though the water on the way back. Feeling tight on parts of my IT and feet. I forgot that as you build strength, it feels weird. I sure can remember that feeling though, and it feels great in the end.
