PRE + secret trails with CA

September 7, 2015 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Slept well, and "in" until 6:30 (4:30 pacific), then drove to the airport with my mom. Was pretty quiet, then had some good chats. She might come out to my friend Erin's wedding reception party in "The Fort" at the end of the month. CA and I are going, and we're going to visit & stay with Nick Clark!

No breakfast, but grabbed decaf coffee + heavy cream at MSP. Smooth flight to SLC with NO layover for the flight to EUG. Ate nothing else, so I had a defacto fast going.

CA picked me up around noonish, then we drove to Jerry's so she could get some stuff for her topper. Then home...for errands. Ugh. Got my haircut - was BUSY AS FUCK on Labor day. The hair stylist cut it "2012 short", which was...OK, but not desirable.

Finally ran at 4. FELT LIKE SHIT. It was weird: the temp and air were "not too warm" and dry, but maybe there was smoke? HR was really high, even though we were running CA pace! WTF! My legs were sore, too - two days post cc race.

Ran straight to yoga, where we did a Lindsay class, which was good. Mike Taylor attended, which was cool.

PM:

1. Had a beer with Mike and Callie. He's still on a break for the next couple weeks.
2. Chatted with Mac Smith. He's putting coaching on hold. Says that running that slow as too difficult (and not fun), so he's going back to his old routine: cross-fit and faster (grind) running. I agreed with him how challenging and frustrating it is to run slow, and how you really cannot run with most people (indeed, even I can't run with the hunt group on a lot of days). I regret that he's throwing in the towel at the precise point where he would stand to start reaping benefits, but I understand where he's coming from. A big part of it, I think, is Pam. SHE's going through major burnout: it's been creeping on this whole year, but now it's so bad (or, simply not improving) that she's bagging running entirely, including NOT running world 100K!

So I think his head is in the right place: make running fun and less structured & rigid.
