At MGRHS, we ran 2(8x400m) at 5k pace with decreasing recovery in the first set: 60, 50, 50, 40, 30, 30, 20 and constant recovery in the second: 45 seconds, except in the second we had to lower the pace by one second each time. We took about seven minutes in between the sets That all sounds difficult, but considering that today was the first time in a long while that I've felt good (fingers crossed, 90% healthy, except for the ear infection), the group I was placed in, and that I actually did the workout somewhere around 5k pace, I did not hammer it. I was confident and in control pretty much the entire time. In the first set they varied from 83 to 79, in the second I ran something like 82, 80, 79, 78, 78, 76, 72, 68. I felt great about my form, like I could have surged at any moment. On the cooldown back to school over Stone Hill, I found myself in between two groups, on the downhill section of the trail, and had a total zen moment, loose and warm from the 400s, but not destroyed, not concerned about pace or speed or anything, just running. Just maybe I can bring a little bit of that to Saturday's race. Later on in the evening, Azzara and I did 1-minute planks, 25 pushups and 1-minute of ultimate crunch.
