October 13, 2015 (Afternoon)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: Raining and chilly
Comments:
Another nine-hour sleep left me feeling refreshed, if a little anxious for the workout. I had lunch, read Flashman and did laundry until it was time to head over to the Oblong-bound vans. Knowing I would be doing the B workout (the A workout involved a 20-minute tempo, book-ended by 1200s), I was convinced that if I hammered it enough, short though it was, I would feel better about the current state of affairs.
9-minute tempo, 2-minute recovery--5:40 pace (?)
1200m at 5k/3k pace, 2-minute recovery--4:00 exactly
800m at 5k/3k pace, 3 minute recovery--2:27
3-minute cruise--Sub-6:00, definitely
Nick and I ran together the whole time, with me trying to push the envelope and him telling me to chill a little bit. This made for a hard, but balanced workout. I felt best on the 800m. When I got back to Willy D I did 2x20 pushups, 2x30-second side crunches and 1-minute six inches, flutters and scissors.
All good news, right? Not quite. The minute I sink my teeth into the 8k, and am rounding into fitness, I only have one more chance to run it--this Saturday. Yes, this is all about adjusting to college running, getting to know the team, blah blah blah. But at a certain point people grow tired of just participating. I am obviously talking about ECACs which I likely will not get to run in. Does it make sense that the season should essentially end for me on October 17? Not really, but I need to improve on last week and make this short season something I can walk away from in peace.
