I'm a little afraid of what's happening to me. This whole week it's been as though I don't even care about school--sure I've done most of the work, but I've been going through the motions only. My grade on my Latin midterm, however, suggests otherwise. Even so, this sport has taken over my thoughts; and I like it. A small group of us met Sarah and Nick at the track for 6x400m at Wednesday goal pace with 1-minute recoveries, preceded by eight minutes of threshold. After running the whole thing together, Jacob and I added the 200s. Balancing ambition and reality, I thought 79 would be perfect; the first 400 we naturally ran faster, but more interestingly, the pace stayed there the whole time, even when I tried to relax a bit. Keep in mind this is not the GDS peaking workout of 8x400m with a lap recovery; I could run these splits pretty confidently. Even with the 200s, I didn't have to struggle to hit those splits.

It looks as though Jacob and I are the only two people doing the 5k. Now I don't necessarily like trying to beat one's teammates anymore than the next guy. Not wanting to lose a two-person race, however, here's what I need to consider:
1) Jacob has speed: His 200s were 26 and 27
2) His XC 5k is slower than mine at 17:13

So in short--assuming I'm near him the whole time, I need to do what runners like Zersenay Tadese did, only successfully.

Also Colin Cotton looked INSANE during his workout and it was quite inspiring. In response to Jacob's and my comments about him, Sarah said, "You guys are talking about Colin the way you should be talking about girls."
