3x Baldy with CA

November 16, 2015 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 50s, dry but windy

Comments:
Decided on this workout just this morning, as I realized I'd be in South EUG for a pool visit. Coordinated to meet CA at Fox Hollow and Amazon at 1. Got there early, jogged around a bit, then when she got there, we jogged to the base of Baldy. Did x6 pull-ups (I suck at them now, barely do 'em!), then went after it. Ditched my jacket and just went shirtless.

I was definitely tired from the weekend, so it was just about feeling them out. For once, I leg from the outset, knowing that CA is behind me in fitness.

So I just rolled. Felt pretty good, but it was work. Wasn't sure what I'd split: could be 9:30, or 10:30. Was pretty shocked when I saw 9:23! I ran hard to "The tree" at the top (past the usual spot), knowing I'd be waiting a bit for CA.

Good pace back down. Trail was wet, but not yet sloppy.

And so it went. Wasn't sure where the splits would go, but I felt good, so I kept pushing. Turns out, I probably pushed too hard:

up (HR), down (HR) (not including middle waiting interval):

9:23 (169), 7:55 (139)
9:30 (175), ~8:00 (forgot to split: 14x)
9:39 (176), 7:35

GREAT run. Wow. My previous PR was like 9:45 and 10ish is usually pretty good! But the HR *was* too high. But there's a time for that - pushing harder into VO2Max effort, and that time is now. I'd like to do this workout 1-2x more before Bandera and see what the HRs do.

Easy jog (+6 more pull-ups) back to the truck. CA had a good workout with very little symptoms, which was good.

PM: no weights, just went out for a chill beer + dinner with CA. Really enjoyable.
