Ridgeline + Amazon

August 22, 2009 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 60 - 75, sunny

Comments:
Got a later start than usual today; woke up early, worked on the bike (still couldn't get the pedal off), did circuits, wrote some e-mails, and FINALLY got out for the run around 1000.

Not too sore from the track session; a little tired, so I kept it pretty easy. Felt good going up the hill and on top at Ridgeline, but the climb up my add-on road/trail was TOUGH. Man, that's steep.

Clunked down Willamette hill, got water and had a Clif shot at the cemetery, then kept rolling. I was glad to knock out my last steep downhill right before Donald St, and it was a relaxing cruise down 40th to Rexius.

I was feeling pretty OK rolling into Amazon but I had to deuce, so I stopped in the park, then took the concrete path that's near the K/mile adidas loop. I WAS gonna do a loop or 2 there, but I felt like DIETING. But at the last minute, I figured I'd go do one.

Good decision, because when I got to the start, viola! Amber was there! KEY. She was chatting with some "fat Kenyan" runner, but I said hi and intro'd myself to them both and chatted a bit.

She started her workout and I jogged a lap, and then I saw her after her first rep. I asked what she was up to, and before I knew it, she and I were grinding out a mile on the trail! HA!

She SAID she only wanted a ~5:45 mile, which would've been perfect since that's my marathon effort, but we were out FAST. 1:17 at the quarter but it felt easy. I small talked a BIT during the first quarter, but I figured this HAD to be an effort for her so I kept mum the rest of the loop.

The loop gets tight on the south end and we were weaving through some foot traffic, so I drifted back behind her for about 200m. GOOD DECISION. She had on these 0.0001' inseam shorts. WOW. I've done some amazing runs this summer but that was the best "view" I'd seen yet! WOW. :)

800m in about 2:40-low and before the K the trail finally widened so I could run equal (no more good view). The pace felt pretty comfortable, and when we got back to the start, it wound up being a 5:25.

That's a first. I've NEVER run a mile that fast with a girl, ever. We milled around a bit and did some more small talk. I asked what else was on tap; she said "some faster stuff". I looked at my watch, which read like 2 hrs, 10min...with at least 4mi from home. So I bid her farewell.

GOOD DAY. Glad I stopped by the park! Wow, is she gorgeous. And a pretty good runner, to boot! :)

Kept it EASY (but probably no slower than 6:40) the rest of the way home. I was tired, but I just focused on form the rest of the way.

2:43 for the entire run. I'm calling it 23, though it could've been longer because the 2nd half was well under 7:00.
