Exercise Type: Run
Weather: Frigid
Comments:
We had our first, coach-sanctioned track workout of the year, 4-8-12-8-4 with 2/3-time recovery and everything at "3k pace" except the 1200m (5k) and the last 400m (mile). We had five minutes of tempo just before and just after the workout itself. I'd been in a group with Matt Rock and Ian, but realized after the first two intervals that they were doing something in preparation for the mile. So before and after the 1200m, I had a little bit of extra recovery, both because of the mixup and because SL made me join a group. With the temperature requiring tights, and killer winds, the middle of the workout definitely became a mental battle, very much opposed to Saturday's fun. I was rather surprised and pleased, though, to hit 65, something I don't think I could have done a month ago.
Anthony warned against viewing Saturday as some kind of compensatory opportunity, but given the way things are going, is that such a bad view to take? I FEEL a thousand times more fit and confident than I ever did during the cross season and would like some token of my fitness beyond a handful of strong workouts before the break.
Better yet, because my history class was cancelled this morning, I was far more productive than usual tonight. Maybe coffee at dinner played a role, but I write this now feeling like my life is, for the time being, back in order.
