PRE + I5

February 29, 2016 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: OK, but pollen-y

Comments:
Good run, but HIGH HR. Was high from the get-go, and it was impossible to keep it under 140. Had a busy morning, then got out solo, but not before doing a quick form check on the treadmill, looking to be sure that my feet were extending straight behind.

This "pawback" always takes more energy, which could be another factor in the high HR.

Ran the long way to Alton, then PRE trails all the way to I5 (almost Springfield) and back. Did x4 hard strides in the park on the gravel, then back to work.

Foot was GOOD. A bit sore in the final mile, but minimal. Achy in the afternoon, but I did the usual post-run:

- stretch
- ice
- REST (off feet for >30min)

During the run, it was a focus on:

- pelvis left (and all that goes with it, feeling the pelvis left, feeling the right leg go back farther, feeling the changes to my trunk)
- ARM SWING. It was interesting to find out the "dissociation" of my RIGHT shoulder blade. It just swings wonky and - as a result - weak. So with my weight routine, I've honed in on what it actually feels like to "swing it powerfully forward", and keeping it "a part of my trunk". That was interesting to focus on. This same concept applies to the LEFT scapula going back!
- quick feet turnover and an active pushoff

Had some trouble with my left pinky toe. The taping is "sucking it under" my 4th toe, causing irritation. It's legitimately sore today.

PM: busy work afternoon, with only a bit of studying. BIG NEWS: Callie got a new job at Oregon Tilth! Big raise (36K to 42, but I'm encouraging her to ask for 44K) with way better benefits, and it's a remote working job with travel! Very cool, exciting (but a little nerve wracking - I'm sure it'll be hard to "say goodbye" to an important job in her career).

Foot was moderately achy but MINIMAL in the PM. I did ice it while working on my iRF column tonight.
