July 10, 2008 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: 60F, sunny and breezy
Comments:
Woke up feeling very rested, which was unusual. Did a million things to prep for the run, including stretching, some patellar tendon massage/mobs, and taping -- in a addition to eating enough to be able to gut an aleve and two extra strength tylenols to be sure I was pain-free for the AT.
Felt pretty good on the warm-up, mostly because I was awake. Didn't feel too clunky, but when I got on the trail to start the AT, I was dismayed to see a 1:30 for my first split. Breathing and energy were good, but I felt quite clunky and less-than-effortless.
Things improved a bit as I focused on form, but I certainly wasn't "floating along" like previous ATs. I'll attribute this to some JET-LEG from frisbee league Monday night...which pretty well explains it.
Split 5:50, 5:40, 5:37, then did an additional half mile on the roads on the way back to round out the 3.5-mile AT.
Knee felt fine. Some tightness in the patellar tendon -- which is to be expected based on how I tape it. Some central knee pain (very low) on the cooldown, and fine afterwards.
Let's hope it stays that way.
Family coming to town today!
