Third 3k at Elmira

Today was my first time going to Elmira. It's not very nice there, I thought the school kinda looked like a correctional facility. I went out on a 15 minute progressive run right after we got there with the 4x800m team. The race was shortly after. I anchored and it was really weird because the boys teams and the Elmira girls team had already finished when I started my leg so I literally raced an 800 with no one else on the track. I wasn't totally racing though, I didn't even kick at the end. I did a cooldown after and then I sat around for a few events before warming up again for the 3k.
I was super excited to be running with Char and Nisha. There was only one other Elmira girl in the 3k which took some pressure off the race. We were paced at 96 seconds per lap for the first mile. The first lap felt pretty slow (and I was fine with that). We still came through in 96 seconds for that one. The second was a bit harder. The third lap I was kinda concerned because it seemed like we had slowed and I knew that I would have to make up for the times that weren't fast enough on the last laps. I really didn't want to have to do that, but I think we were 98 for the third lap. I'm not sure what our lap split was for the fourth lap. I had been sitting behind Nisha and Char for the first mile and I started getting in position to make a move at the end of the fourth lap. I tried picking it up on the 5th lap, but I'm not sure if I actually went any faster. With two laps to go I imagined I had just started running an 800m race. I think I picked it up a little, but I didn't want to start kicking so early. The last lap was really hard. I heard Weishaar say either 11:12 or 11:17 for my time at the 200m mark. In the last 200 I didn't want to go any faster, but I forced myself to and it was worth it because I just barely broke 12 minutes for the first time with 11:56.
I guess I'll be running the 3k a lot more now so I can make the provisional time. I both like and dislike running the 3k because it's probably my best event, but those last laps are always rough.
Nisha did really well for her first 3k ever, I think she ran 12:07. She's totally capable of getting well under 12. I don't know what Char's time was, but after the race she said aerobically she felt fine, it's just her legs feel very weak.
Sylvia had some killer races in the 800m and 400m. Grace and Lizzy also did great in the 1500.
We did a 15 minute cooldown and 2 laps of ins and outs after.
