MKTC - Big Push along "Three Pyramids" in Jefferson area

June 29, 2016 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Big push today! Took the kids on a point-to-point run, going south to north on a route that included some pretty cool climbing.

The route was 16-18 maybe? And it included climbs of Crescent Mountain and one of the Three Pyramids. The kids and a couple counselors (including Max and CA) started with the kids, where they hiked the entire way up Crescent. Meanwhile, we dropped the second van off at the finish, then Kari drove JP and I to a midpoint. From there, he and I ran backwards on the route to catch the kids.

I was prepared for a grind, and that's what it turned out the be. JP is a BEAST on ups, so it was like 16x just to keep up with his "moderate" pace.

We got abotu 85% of the way there, when the kids came past us. But since they had plenty of counselors, we figured we'd tag the summit, then run up behind, so that's what we did.

Really cool up there, then a moderate descent, til we came across a kid (and Aaron Newell, escorting) who'd sprained his ankle. I checked it out - no swelling, but likely a painful muscle-tendon strain - and we simply walked out. Walked a good three miles back to the van, where Kari took him out. JP went with her, which left Aaron and I to reel in the kids.

We ran moderate at first, then legit hard up the climb, which felt good. Aaron is a fit young guy and had ZERO problems keeping up with me! We got to the summit of Middle Pyramid just as the group was about to leave. Perfect!

From there:
- I ran easy with CA and some of the slower descender kids. Ran about 4ish miles down, then flat-up back to the van and a lake-side picnic spot
- swam and cooled off at the lake

PM:
- drove back (nap time!)
- dinner and fire time

REALLY fun day! Really think this camp is pretty awesome!
