8th Annual Crater Lake Rim Ride!

September 25, 2016 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Bike

Weather: cool, then pretty nice - sunny at high 60s or 70?

Comments:
We slept in the "North Crater TH" parking lot, in the topper. Slept pretty solid. Got up early and I was giddy, as usual, to get going. CA wasn't super-excited, but she was a good sport. We were on the bikes by about 0730 or so...

We did the classic route: from the north end of the park, up to the rim, then around, and back. We brought our running shoes for a possible Mt Scott duathlon, too.

CA has been complaining of her bad bike seat for a while -- super-hard with zero cushioning (unlike my almost-granny like cushioned seat) -- and it was really bad today. By the time we got to the rim and were making our way clockwise, it was almost to the point where we needed to turn back. So we stopped, and we simply switched seats!

She wasn't being a wimp, either - that seat was brutal! And it took me about half the rim ride to realize it had as much to do with the inclination (the front tip was too upward-angled) than anything. Once I re-angled it, it was way better. And she was much happier with mine.

It was a beautiful day on the rim, and the traffic was its usual chill on the east side. CA felt a lot better, but once we got to Mt Scott, we were both fatigued enough to not want to add an up-and-down run-hike, so we skipped it, and kept riding.

Overall, the ups were pretty slow-going, but we got through it. My legs felt...OK, but a little jell-o like. We had a nice stop-off at the Visitor Center, with coffee, a brownie we bought (no breakfast this morning --> really hungry!) and even some soda! After a good half-hour+ stop, we finished the ride, and hit the descent.

Good effort! It was a good close-to-five hours on the bike, I think, for that 50+ miles. Probably a bit much of an effort, but always enjoyable.
