Marathon

October 22, 2016 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
I'm pretty sure this year's weather was even worse than last year. It was raining the whole day, and there were puddles that would sneak up on us and soak our shoes. I think I'd actually prefer colder weather so it would snow instead of rain. I fell in the mud puddle in the woods during our course run-through. I was jumping across it, but when I landed I slid backwards and landed mostly in the mud next to the water. It was super funny; there were all these other teams around that saw me and I was trying so hard not to laugh for the next few minutes. My shoes were soaked when we got back so I called my parents and asked them to bring another pair of shoes and a blanket, and they ended up bringing this huge bag full of extra clothes like socks which I really needed later.
I was cold when the race started and I thought I would warm up quickly but at the 800 meter mark I felt like I was just getting colder. When we went into the woods I got nervous and excited because I was pretty sure that I would fall in the mud pit again. It was a lot bigger than it was before and I DID NOT FALL. That was a beautiful moment. Before that I had mostly been trying to ignore how I was getting steadily colder, and after NOT FALLING I finally managed to completely ignore it. The rest of the race went by quickly. My only goal was to have a better race than at Manhattan, and I did, but that's really not saying much considering that Manhattan is most likely the worst race I've ever had. So basically this was still a bad race for me, but I'm moving in the right direction now. I'm excited for STACS because that will give me one more opportunity to have a good race this season before sectionals. I'm really hoping that the course is flat and open (and dry) because that will almost guarantee a great race from me.
We got 3rd which is not what we wanted. Lizzy got disqualified for cutting the course and she was really upset about that, but we still wouldn't have won even if her place counted. I kinda wish we had raced at Newark Valley, but Marathon made us all a bit tougher so it was worth it.
