December 18, 2016 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: 30s, breezy
Comments:
Callie had this idea to run out at "The Gorge", which is a river gorge park about an hour east of Lexington. I got a hold of Timbo Jenkins, the random KY runner that placed third behind me at Superior. About a minute into meeting him during the race, after I said Callie's grandma lived in Lexington, he invited me down for a run.
Callie and I picked up him and his friend Zaan, a New Zealand mid-distance (800M) runner, then picked up her cousin Sam, and drove to the Gorge. The three of us ran while she and Sam hiked.
We did a rough out and back on some fantastic river gorge trails. Not huge vertical but substantial for east coast standards: up and down, and around and through several rivers and creeks made for a fun day. Best of all, both Tim and Zaan wanted to run easy, so we used a running clock and ran for 3 hours, which only got us 13 miles! Nevertheless, it was a perfect "back-to-back" after yesterday's harder push.
REALLY fun to chat with and get to know Tim more. Super-nice guy.
Rest of the day:
- drove back into town and dropped off the guys
- Callie and I had "brunch" (at 3PM) at "Wild Eggs"
- to the hospital to visit her Grandma
- back home to shower and clean up
- back to town to get stuff for her Grandma at her house
- to a pub in Lexington to have beers with one of her dad's childhood friends
Big day!
