rural Lexington country road grind run

December 17, 2016 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: HOT...like a weird, pre-storm humid and like 60F

Comments:
Callie and I got into Lexington real late and got to bed later, around 1AM eastern time. We then slept til NOON, dang near! Clutch that her aunt and uncle let us sleep that late, at their house out in the country, about ten miles south of Lexington city limits.

After getting up and having a bit of coffee, Callie and I went for a run. She went an easy 2 miler (but was STILL having symptoms), then sent me off on my grind run.

The country roads were fairly ideal terrain: good surface, and hella-rolling, but never steep...but dang, then almost never stopped rolling. On top of that, a strange storm system was rolling in, so it was overcast and breezy...but with higher humidity, it soon felt HOT.

I essentially mapped out a big rectangle loop, with a slight add-on, and a stop-off back at the house (where I stashed a water bottle at the gate). Running 14 miles, total, I grinded 11. The damages (splits, HR):

9:53 (107)
8:34 (121)
----
7:11 (146)
7:15 (151)
6:56 (158)
6:43 (160)
7:15 (163)
6:45 (165)
7:17 (166)
7:30 (167)
6:51 (167)
7:09 (168)
6:56 (171!)
----
8:54 (152)

Felt...pretty good! Tried to do a myriad of things:

- Tall & Forward
- PULL
- strong foot (and hip) behind

There wasn't a single flat mile in there. The faster miles were with some tailwind, but dang, there were some tough ones. "And THE HEAT, my GOD the HEAT". Not terrible, but I was for-sure low on water.

Good grind run. Borderline a bit too far (and hard), but these are crucial "strength runs"....

Rest of the day:
- cleaned up, had a "light lunch" (soup and salad") at her aunt-uncles
- drove to Callie's Grandpa's (+step grandpa's) house in Lexington)

While there, a significant mishap: while in the living room, Callie's grandma - who is quite physically frail with several health issues - fell while trying to ascend a couple small stairs, and broke her damn arm. Ugh. She couldn't get up, and we had to call 911. Instead of hanging out, watching the UK-UNC game, Callie and I wound up in the ER for a few hours. She's otherwise "OK", but when you're 91, any hospitalization is life-threatening. On top of that, she's likely going to require surgery. Crap.
