Snowy-AF run in Bend

January 7, 2017 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 10-15 deg, heavy snow, breezy

Comments:
Garbage weather today, but had no choice but to get in some mileage. Plan A was do go skiing today, but the weather was so overwhelmingly bad - with poor visibility - that I simply ran, then we made our way home.

Slept in (but not too well), getting out to run around 9:45. Ran a big loop from the hotel downtown, essentially the entire length of "Mt Washington Dr", which is this loop circumnav road around Aubrey Butte, a hill where a bunch of rich folks live in west Bend.

The footing was varying degrees of ass: previously shoveled sidewalks were so-so (with 6" new snow), but the unshoveled stuff was un-runnable (snow on snow on snow). Mid-run, when I got on Washington, I simply had no choice but to run on the roads, artfully dodging cars.

Ran up Mt Washington, which had many small grinder climbs, to Central Oregon CC, then back down the hill. But since this looped back too soon, I doubled back to Washington, and kept going all the way around. I forgot to start my watch and missed a good 1.5mi.

TOUGH to run with good mechanics, and I could feel the compensations magnify: pelvis right, right knee in, crappy stability and push-off. But I did my best to be symmetrical and extend my hips well. It was OK.

It got pretty grindy the end of the run, but I didn't care too much.

Wasn't a TERRIBLE run, but gosh, I could not run like that more than maybe once or twice a week.

Post-run:
- de-iced my beard
- quick shower and check-out
- REALLY good breakfast at Wolf something
- went to a used ski store to start buying some gear
- made the SLOW drive eastbound, stopping in Sisters to get new wiper blades, then stopping in McKenzie Bridge to visit our friend Tim Hooten (who might sublease our shared 1 brd place below us).
- home...but not before almost ditching it in slush on the highway in Springfield!

Yeesh, I'm tired of this weather...

Wore the Speedcrosses again...they were solid.
