short, COLD run in Bend

January 6, 2017 (Night)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: teens, chilly

Comments:
Weird day. Saw one early AM patient, then I drove CA to Bend for a work inspection. I didn't REALLY want to go, but:

- I did NOT want her driving the pass in shitty winter conditions (she has barely any snow driving experience)
- work would pay our expenses
- we were going to try and ski on Saturday

Drive was fine on the way up (albeit snowy and slick at times). I dropped CA off at Humm Kombucha for the inspection, then went downtown. I'd messaged MB to get a coffee. Thought that was going to happen at 12:30, but by the time everything happened, it was after 2. Had a good coffee and nice chat with him at Crow's Feet (best coffee and shop atmosphere in Bend), but that went 'til nearly 4 -- blasting through my run and work time. I thought CA was going to be done at any time, so I went to this other place (with better WiFi) to work...and wait.

Didn't hear ANYTHING 'til 5:20 so I texted her. Turns out she was just finishing. Annoying. I wish I'd known, because I hadn't run. I frantically wrapped up a gait analysis report, then picked her up...at some locked-up wareshouse in NE Bend. Ugh.

I was pretty annoyed at it all, and - unfairly - took it out on her. I did say "we need to organize and communicate better", but I did blame her too much. But the reality is, I'm at the total mercy of how these work things go -- and often my hands are tied and I can't go do things. Long-story-short: I made her cry and we "argued' for like an hour in the truck, which didn't help my run plans.

By the time we checked in, it was like 7:30pm. I resigned to just hike indoors, but with only one treadmill, I bucked-up and ran outside. Ran an easyish three miles around town. Felt OK.

Winter in Bend is interesting, because they sort-of shovel and plow...but since they don't use salt, everything stays snow-crusted. So it's "clear", but you're running on packed snow. I ran in my Speedcrosses, which were fine, but even in those conditions, an 8-minute mile is more like 7:20.

Post-run:
- beer in the hotel room
- GOOD food at Spork, this hybrid Mexican-Korean-Vietnamese place in west Bend
- actually watched a movie on HBO in the room!

So...not a bad day. AND a really good chat with MB! This was truly the first time we've ever hung out, talked and otherwise connected one-on-one. He was friendly, authentic (I think), non-braggy...but still a good quantity-quality of "opinion"!
