Fasted grind run at Dorris

December 25, 2016 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: high 40s, but PURE sun! So nice!

Comments:
Up early and no time for a run. Had some tea on the way to the airport, big farewell to my mom, and got on the plane to SEA. Got a fair amount of work done on that flight, then again at SEA, where my flight to EUG was delayed. Had a coffee and heavy cream, but did not eat.

Got back to the EUG around 3ish, changed at the airport into run clothes, then drove straight to my old apartment to run. The plan was to do a long, flatish, faster out and back.

At this point, I've essentially "cream-fasted" the entire day (although I ate an ass-load the night before). Did a FULL 100 of the runner hops, then got after it.

BEAUTIFUL afternoon in Eugene, and such a nice change from either dreary or snowy!

I felt...woozy early, which is WEIRD. Not sure if I was low-grade sick or...the fast? But I so seldom feel the effects of low-calorie, that to feel anything this early was weird. Felt that way, with a higher HR than typical, running easy to Dorris. Stopped to deuce around 5 miles in, then gradually began to pick it up. Ran about 8.5 miles out, then turned back, and started the legit grind.

It felt...OK, but stiff and not very fast. But I kept at it, ratcheting down the pace. I focused intently on some Walmsley-Salazar striding - with good hip extension and high heel recovery.

The last few miles were both tough and not very fast...but I didn't push super-hard, just "grind-plus". Ended the fast running at 15.0 miles in Alton Baker, then jogged back to the truck.

Splits (AHR):

8:19 (121)
8:05 (129)
8:13 (132)
9:01 (131 - the big hill)
8:30 (135)
8:xx (138 - deuce stop)
----
7:34 (143)
6:54 (152)
6:33 (162)
6:20 (165)
6:51 (168 - big hill)
6:15 (168 - down the hill)
6:33 (171)
6:24 (173)
6:24 (172)
----
9:40 (139 - recovery)

GOOD run, and good "experience", I suppose! It's not always about running super-fast, but surviving adversity, so such a "bonk run" is good for that.

Rest of the day:
- home to unpack...then repack! Getting ready to move again!
