Football hunt!

December 6, 2016 (Night)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: damp, but no rain; not very cold

Comments:
I led this hunt, and since it's been SOO long since we've had a fun "Game" hunt, I decided to bring a football along (coincidentally, Rashaan Salaam died today in Boulder, so this was a memorial hunt for him).

Small four-some today: me, Lewis, Tommy, and Hammer. Ran mostly the flats, taking turns doing short passes and "going-long"! Things got interesting when we ran along Amazon creek and Lewis & Hammer went on the east side, and me and Tommy on the west. Almost everywhere, this trail area is only: creek, trees, grass, and bark path, before the street.

Except the one place I dove for the ball.

We'd take turns throwing through holes in the trees. Lewis threw one that I was determined to catch (heroic!), so I dove forward and low for it...and hit a fucking random elevated manhole cover! Bashed my inner knee into it, and it KILLED. Thankfully I didn't hit the joint line or knee cap, just the bottom-inner part of the femur and medial quad, but man, it hurt! I half-limped for a mile before I felt good enough to keep throwing and catching.

But when I ran into a metal railing when Hammer through the ball OVER the overpass of 30th Avenue, I knew that was Strike Two -- time to cool it!

Ran another mile or so, trying on more toss from a pedestrian over-bridge, before heading back. Fun stuff...but some close calls!
