"Runaway Bride Mile" - 5:16

November 19, 2016 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 50s, cold, but nice

Comments:
Courtney and Bert and both runner, so they staged a fun-run (e.g. fat-ass) 1-mile race near their wedding venue, on this long straightaway jetty (essentially), connecting across the estuary to a little park.

CA and I ran super-easy on the warm-up with their friend, Jackie. Did a few strides, then toed the line, in some loose sand, which comprised the first (and last) 200m of the course. The race started with a drop of a rock (and a minor trampling of Jackie's son, Cooper, age 10), then we were off.

Most of Bert's groomsmen were CC alums, all in their mid to late 20s, so the field was stout enough. It got out reasonable, but once we left the sand and transitioned to hard gravel, then road, Bert took off, followed by a couple teammates. I hung back in fourth, hurting, of course. We ran across the paved jetty road to the entrance, up slight hill, then tagged a yellow post and came back. I made a push on 3rd place, but he quickly repelled me. From there, it was just a slow, painful fade. I held onto 4th, but in an abysmal 5:13. Oh well.

CA ran like 6:xx, which was solid.

Post-race: easy long cool-down on the trails on the island. Felt fine enough.

Rest of the day
- back to the house for breakfast
- wedding prep! I didn't do much, but sit around and read and stay out of everyone's way
- the wedding! Good, quick ceremony, then fun night! PRetty perfect wedding: good balance of nice, with intimacy and fun, while still being quality.
