Eagles Rest up & down with Nate

March 3, 2017 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: mid-40s, drizzle

Comments:
Good, busy day. Saw a patient at 7, then worked, then home to pound some breakfast before a noon "long" run out at Hardesty with Nate Jaqua, who I'll be pacing at WSER! He's a really nice guy and "soo solid!" Glad to be pacing someone I really like, again.

We met in P.Hill then drove together out to Hardesty for an Eagles Rest up and down. Eagles' is maybe only 2900', but the snow level is so low we weren't sure what we'd find. But there was little snow at the top, and the mud wasn't too terrible the rest of the way.

Forgot-still missing my HRM, so went by feel, which meant I was grinding more than I would have liked. I led for a couple miles, then he got out front and pushed a bit, but it was OK.

Really trying to use my hips: chest over knees, knees (and the entire leg) pushing behind. It's annoying how hard this is, but you gotta use your damn glutes.

We ascended in about just under 1:30, didn't spend much time up there amidst rain, fog and wind, then got down. I let him in front at some point and was impressed by his foot speed...undoubtedly the product of having a ten year pro soccer career!

We both started to feel it on Goodman, and he actually fell back quite a bit on "the shitburgers" in the last 3K. I just kept shuffling, feeling OK.

Good run. 2:2x for the 14 miles. Not sure the Goodman split but probably just under 40.

Changed clothes, drove back to P.Hill, and I got to practice just in time. No CA today. Since the weather was cold and drizzly, we did dynamic warmu and drills indoors before heading out. After a jog warm-up the kids did a grind mile, and 2x (300-200-100).

MAJOR form-focus, as is the theme all week. They looked AWESOME, from top to bottom! Really impressed. We have like ten kids, but some decent talent. Our trio of solid boys were all ~50-51 on the 3s and 30s on the 2s. Our top 1-2 girls were 59-61 and mid-high 30s. But they all had really good, relaxed form.

Super-fun! This group is by far the best, most positive and coachable group I've ever worked with. Just great people.

Rest of the day:
- back to EUG, quick shower, then happy hour at Jiffy with some Hunters
- home for dinner with CA
