March 24, 2017 (Afternoon)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: mid-70s, windy, not very humid
Comments:
Slept fairly crappy in a plastic-y bed with plastic-y pillows, so I felt like ass upon waking. However, it's also SUPER-pollen-y so I'm sure allergies were jacked.
Got up and pounded some "home" coffee, which is shockingly not terrible. After some hanging out and a couple errands - including a trip to Bankhouse for real (albeit, less good!) coffee, and a stop to get some Allegra, I went for a run around noon.
There's a storm rolling in, so it was hella-windy, blowing WNW at a good 15mph.
We're staying at the home, so I simply ran from there...which is annoying, simply because I don't have a firm run route. So I just headed out to the Beach Drive, which has a wide concrete "trail" between the sand beach and US90 (which isn't a terrible "highway"). I figured I'd run with the wind out there, then cut into the neighborhoods to cut the wind on the inbound.
Felt a little stiff in the first mile (including a slow, curly-q up-and-over pedestrian ramp), then I easily settled into 7:00 pace with that nice wind at my back. Worked stride efficiency and the miles went pretty quick, all the way to downtown Gulfport.
Once I got to US49-main St, I cut north a few blocks, then back east via the neighborhoods. There was some good zig-zagging to avoid the railroad tracks, but otherwise it was pretty good.
Effort never felt hard, but I felt heavy and, near the end, HOT. Went a bit long, then walked it in, once I got inside the gate.
Splits:
8:58 (didn't capture all my distance)
7:11
6:59
7:00
6:57
7:24 (back into the wind, through neighborhoods)
7:14
7:13
7:34
7:18
7:25
SUPER-HOT once I got done! And...wound up with some sunburn!
It's all REALLY interesting. 7:0x is truly the "new easy"...like it was 4-5 years ago. For real. It just isn't hard at all. Gosh, a few years ago, in these conditions? To run like 8:xx would feel worse in these same conditions. Nuts!
Rest of the day:
- hung out a bit longer
- drove mom to get my Grandpa's car at the shop
- drove to Run N Tri for the "talk". It was small, but I wound up chatting with one of the owner-managers and another veteran PT who was there to hear about my treatment approach, so that was cool
- to Chandeleur to pound some awesome beers with mom
- to "Slap Yo Momma" for some BBQ
Good day!
