May 25, 2017 (Afternoon)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: nice, but SUUUPER-grass pollen-y
Comments:
OK day. Saw a couple patients, then waited around (read, otherwise lazed) to run.
First track session in a few weeks. The idea was to go short, do some "hard openers" and practice for the Beer Mile!
The grass pollen is kicking up...and I wanted to take some inhahar just in case, but I friggin forgot. Annoying. Even after running home to get my spikes, to practice for the Beer Mile!
Met Evan, Lewis and his friend Leo (who's run a couple workouts with us). Leo was champin' to get going. He asked about the K and I said "hard". He replied, "Like 2:40?" And my response was, "If you're gonna go that fast, I'll be behind you!" So he led.
We got out in the first 200m; it felt a little sluggish and it was like 36-37! Hmmm...not quite. Hit the 400m in like 73 and he was slowing down, so I rolled around him. 600m in 1:50, then the K in 3:04. OK.
These hard intervals are interesting: they REALLY bring out any form inefficiency. Really noticing (like the 5K last week) that I'm carrying tension in my forearms-hands. Good to know.
That K hurt, but the breathing seemed OK. Jogged about 3ish minutes, then hopped into the 300m.
These were TOUGH and got progressively difficult to breathe, to the point where it took like 30s of wheezing to recover from the final one. It was a relief to know the other guys were struggling, too, and it wasn't just me being a pussy. But man, into the 3rd and 4th I almost felt panicky -- "THIS is how a hard mile feels??" Ugh!
We did only one set of 4x300. Leo and Lewis peaced out, leaving Evan and I to jog back to my office for four cans of mineral water for the "Beer 800". Upon returning, I slipped on my spikes and we went after it.
Chugging LIME mineral water is BRUTAL. Several times, it like, exploded in my throat upon contact! Guzzling splits were terrible, but the running, fine. And, interestingly, the breathing was less terrible (maybe the fizz shocked-open the throat).
Workout splits:
K: 3:04
300s: 50, 49, 51, 50
Beer 800: (12) 74 (24) 73
Jogged easy with Evan, then was done. OK, but not great day.
PM: saw a patient, then worked, then home early with CA, who's sick (either a bronchitis from allergies, or just plain sick again!).
