Gilbert/Eveleth road/trail tempo

July 2, 2017 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 70s, nice

Comments:
Slept in, a bit, and thought about my AM run, but it was a beautiful morning, and we decided we were gonna give it a push in Monnnnty's boat, from Crane Lake, basically all the way into Canada.

Packed up and drove a half hour to Crane Lake, but when we got Monnnnty's boat into the water, it wasn't running properly...and conked out. Had to get a short tow back to the dock, and that put the kibosh on that trip! Consolation was breakfast in the lodge - low-medium grade.

Then drove back to the cabin, packed that up, then drove back to Eveleth.

Once back, it was about 1PM when it was time to run.

I was due for a long run, but felt haggard. But...it needed to be done.

It's a two mile road run from my uncle's on the lake to a nice dirt road (Enterprise Dr)-- an old mining road-- which then loops into some ATV trails. I figured I could make a big loop into Eveleth, then back to his house.

The plan for today:

- warm-up
- some tempo miles
- many easy middle miles
- finish with tempo

As it shook out, I wound up with:

- 2-mile warm-up
- 2-mile tempo (6:40-uphill, 6:10)
- 7-mile easy-rolling (low to mid 7s pace)
- 3-mile tempo (5:58, 6:15, 6:12)

SOLID run. A few of those miles were flat and fast (the final 3, for sure), but not the first 11. Lots of rollers and mixed pavement and dirt. Felt STRONG, which was good. But dang, low 6s is feeling much harder than it should.

Solid run, though. Important to do.

Rest of the day:

- shower and work
- dinner with family at the house

Good day!
