easy South Eug to Tugman with Thornton

July 26, 2017 (Night)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: hot, but nice

Comments:
Met up with Matt Thornton for a PM run and beers. Haven't seen him since before school was out (end of May?), so we were due.

Met at my office, then ran super-easy (mid to high 8s) south, through the bark, to Tugman Park (by LB's old place) then back via Rexius.

Felt heavy (at that pace) but good to run and chat with him. The main purpose was to talk about a chat I want to have with our two best boy runners, Hunter (2x state champ) and Callan (super-talented speed), who are also basketball players. I simply want to impact upon them how much potential they have: we all think that they could potentially run at the "DI level" (with caveats: Callan, at an Ivy League, to compliment his Merit scholarship; Hunter at Air Force)...but they've got a TON of work to do. They simply need to RUN!

I wanted Matt on board for this, so that they didn't think I was undermining basketball (for whom them played summer league, post-track). He agreed, and stated they have about 100x more potential in running than basketball (as they'll both be seniors, but neither will play much...on a mediocre team!).

Good chats. Matt is a solid man and good coach. Really great to work with him.

Post-run: back to my place for beers and more chats.
